How would you code this scenerio: Patient has a 1 cm diameter area of erythema, induration and tenderness just below the earlobe. A 1/4" incision was made through the punctum with drainage of a moderate amount of purulent sebaceous material. I then attempted to remove the entire capsule through the small hole. I believe I was successful in this. Should this be coded as a I&D 10060 or an excision 11441? Thanks
 
I would code this to an I & D, not an excision. From the note, it does not appear than a "lesion" was excised; only the capsule of an abscess was removed, which would be part of the I & D.
