FINDINGS: An ill defined approximately 2 cm subcutaneous nodule which appeared to be a lipoma.

DETAILS OF PROCEDURE: The patient was brought to the operating room and placed in the supine position. Following IV sedation, the patient was placed in the right lateral decubitus position. The left posterior neck was then prepped with ChloraPrep and after infiltration with anesthetic, a transverse skin incision was made along the skin lines. This was carried down through the skin and subcutaneous tissue. There was an ill defined fibrofatty mass noted. This was carefully dissected from surrounding tissue and passed off the field. The wound was then irrigated with Ancef solution. The incision was closed in layers using 3-0 followed by
subcuticular 4-0 Vicryl. Dressing was applied using Surgiseal. The total length of the incision was approximately 5 cm.
