We have a new provider to our Wound care program and the documentation has us disagreeing on what type of debridement should be billed. The use of term selective has wound staff stating all debridement's are 97597...but yet, she states excisional and to bleeding tissue......

After application of topical benzocaine, sharp curettage was carried into
the subcutaneous tissue layers removing fibrin debris and slough selectively with a
minimal amount of pain and bleeding noted. Bleeding was well controlled with
pressure. This was an excisional debridement that was well tolerated. Post debridement
measurements similar.

She has similarly used the term....excisional debridement done selectively.

97597 is limited to the dermis/epidermis.

11042 is for deeper debridement of the subcutaneous tissue.

Your doctor has documented subcutaneous as the tissue depth.

Excisional debridement is the removal of dead, necrotic tissue usually performed with a sharp knife or similar.
