Existing patients of new doctor at our practice

We have recently hired a new doctor, with a small existing patient base. When an existing patient of that doctor has their first visit at our office, do we bill for a new patient (since they are new to our tax ID and group NPI) or an established patient (since they are established with the provider's individual NPI)?

I recall that this patient will be established because the pt was already seen by the same MD within 3 years. I am not an expert, let's wait for a confirmation.

It is to the provider not to the practice/TIN/NPI.

The patients the provider brings with them are established if the provider has seen them in the past 3 years.
