Excelling in medical coding, involving my excellent communication and people skills that I have acquired through my education and employment experiences: the opportunity to excel in administering support and management: company provisions of advancement, a challenge, and job security.

WORK EXPERIENCE
08/2010-Present Duke University Health Services Medical Coding Specialist
I am currently the primary OR coder for the Cardio-Thoracic, Vascular, Urology, and Transplants surgeons. I code 35-45 cases per day. I converse with the doctors in these specialties on a regular basis. I provide assistance when needed and I work closely with my Revenue manager to make sure we are coding and billing on a timely basis. I also work my PQRI report and coding report to catch any cases that may have been missed by our administrative staff. I am currently in training for ICD-10 and training for the Duke EMR that will go live June 22nd.

04/2008-08/2009 Medical Coder and Billing Specialist IBS Billing
I coded and billed medical charts given to me by 5 Cardio-Thoracic surgeons out of Nashville, TN, The Heart and Vascular Team. This was my personal account to manage all aspects of billing and coding. I administered the set up of patient accounts, CPT codes, ICD-9 codes, and information needed for the doctors to be able to input information in the EMR with speed and accuracy. I would receive a patient's chart in my "to do" list that needed to be coded and sent out to our clearing house for billing. I coded Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular cases on a daily basis. EOB's would then come back and I would post the money and work any denials. I worked closely with MISYS, our clearinghouse for the claims. I worked AR and provided support for my doctors and their staff. On a weekly basis I would refer to their schedules and notify them of any patients that I was missing from my "to do" list. I trained and worked closely with my support team in the office.

11/2005-12/2006 Patient Accounts Representative/Medicaid WFUP Billing
Main objective: to collect payments on patient accounts. Research and review accounts where patients are uninsured and contact them to set up a Budget Plan and to check if they have applied for Government assistance or are eligible for disability. Advise them of our Financial Summary and the procedures we use to qualify a patient for possible Charity Care. Find insurance on patients and file where applicable.
Medicaid: I filed primary claims to CMS, filed secondary claims with primary EOB's. I was also responsible for reviewing patient records and working my AR. Communicating with various other departments within Baptist Hospital and Wake Forest Physicians to obtain documentation to insure claims were filed and paid in a timely manner.

12/2006-4/2008 Wake Forest University Physicians Patient Accounts/Medicaid Coding
In both patient accounts and Medicaid we had the responsibility to review physician documentation and verify CPT and ICD-9 accuracy. I worked closely with the coding department at Baptist Hospital if there was an issue with any codes that were used and did not match the physician documentation we would advise on coding changes in order to file claims properly. I was responsible for reviewing physician documentation and correct CPT and ICD-9 codes that were being denied because of either incorrect coding per documentation or incorrect coding per CMS guidelines.

4/2005-8/2005 Life & Health Sales Agent RBC, High Point
