The physician is performing a R L2-3 exploration of subcutaneous mass lesion . His description is to make a midline incision directly over the lesion and then perform an excision of the tissue around the mass under direct vision.
This is a subcutaneous lesion just above the fascia in the subcutaneous soft tissue just to the right of the L2 spinous process which measurs 2 x 0.5 cm in size. The physician's goal is to find out if it is benign or malignant.
I feel the correct code would be, 21930 do you agree with this? He has not performed this type of procedure before and the verbage of "exploration" is throwing me off.
