I am a new CPC-A and I am working my way through practice questions via Practicode. How do i know when, and when not to, code cause of injury/external cause codes for ER notes?
(1) One case I did marked my answers wrong when i coded injury codes.
(2) I have coded a few more and did not put injury codes and I was correct.
(3) I just coded a case, did not put injury codes in chart, and it was marked wrong.
These are practice cased, and did not show payer. Thank you for your help.
 
Not sure about these tests but anytime you have an injury code from category S the book states to also add external cause codes.
If you can send example questions of the ones that were wrong maybe and provide more feedback:)
