I was wondering if anyone could help me with a question I have regarding the eye-exam. Are the bullet points for ophthalmoscopic exam (optic discs, nerve fiber layer) and posterior segments including retina and vessels countable if they are done without dilation?
I have spoken to my eye providers and they have indicated the optic discs and retina are visible without dilation.

Are these to elements countable?

Thanks,

Guidelines

NOT my area of expertise ... BUT

Since the 1997 Eye Examination Single System guidelines indicate: Ophthalmoscopic exam through dilated pupils (unless contraindicated) of ... (emphasis added by FTB)
It seems that the guidelines are allowing for these bullet points to be counted even when the pupils are not dilated.
