A child was brought in by his mother after falling out of his bouncy seat which was sitting on a kitchen table, on to the floor. Everything was normal in the H&P and ROS. Other than some bruising there was nothing notated in the MR to indicate the child was injured. Our EMR assignd E884.5 to the visit. Of course the claim was rejected by BCBS because the E884.5 is not a stand alone diagnosis code. Any ideas? Thanks L Naschke

Thanks,
I knew there was something I should be looking for. I guess it was just too obvious.

Go out and look at the Contusion with intact Skin Surface (920-924) codes see if any of those would work for the bruises. Coupled with the fall code that should be supportive.
