Good morning. Having trouble understanding if Finnish-type congenital nephrosis is ICD-9-CM code 753.3 or 759.89. Index references 759.89, but TIP under code 753.3 states to use this code along with 581.3 (nephrotic syndrome).

Dx: An 8-day-old infant diagnosed with Finnish-type congenital nephrosis.

Please help, so confused :confused: Thank you!
 
Toni, I should have mentioned that code 753.3 states Finnish-type congenital nephrosis along with the use of additional code 581.3, but the Index states to use code 759.89. I agree with you and am leaning towards code 759.89 because no further information is provided in the Dx statement, but the verbiage for code 753.3 mentions the exact dx as above. Does one take precedence over the other in this case?
