For long-term use of Flonase would you use Z79.51 inhaled steroid or Z79.52 systemic steroid? I have found that a corticosteroid, like Flonase, would be coded with Z79.52 but looking for confirmation.

According to the ICD-10 book, Z79.899 should be used for Flonase.

see if your book has an Appendix B: Pharmacology List.

I believe because it is an OTC steroid spray, that it does not contain enough steroid to use the specific drug use codes.

**EDITED to add- I don't think the specific drug use codes should be used for OTC medications. In general. It is possible that there is a situation out there where it would be appropriate.
