when coding for an ultrasound guided FNA of thyroid, would you just use the 10022 code for outpatient hosp? Is there any radiology codes that should be associated with this procedure?

Thanks,
Tina

Actually, you can code us guidance if performed in addition to the biopsy. We typically use 76942. If you have the expert edition of CPT, you can look up 10022 and it will tell you the possible radiology codes (based on body area).

When we try to use 76942, it makes our claims error. I believe that is a physician fee, not facility. When I looked up th fee schedule on this code, it states that it is packaged for hosp outpatient and payable under the physician fee schedule. In the CPT book, it states imaging supervision and interpretation...so, I'm assuming the radiologist would bill for this fee.
