How would you code the following situation:
Patient presents for a follow-up of pneumonia. Assessment and plan indicates that the patient's pneumonia is improving but not resolved, therefore, the patient continues on his antibiotics.
ICD-10 follow up code Z09 states, "Encounter for follow-up examination after completed treatment for conditions other than malignant neoplasm".
The treatment isn't complete yet, since the patient still has the pneumonia and is still on the antibiotics. So, would you just code the pneumonia and no follow-up code?
