I work for a large family practice group who provide same day care for patient's who, after taking x-ray, have a fracture. Most of the time our providers stabilize the fracture by applying a splint or a sling and refer them out for orthopedic care. What type of service can we bill for this type of office visit? Are we allowed to bill for fracture care and/or the application of a splint and what type of supporting documentation should I be looking for?

Any information on this type of service will help.

If you are referring them out for definitive orthopedic care, you can code the office visit plus application of the splint and supplies (use modifier -25 on your E/M).

I'm in agreement with lisa that you can charge an office visit and supplies. But if you actually cast it and plan on doing the follow up care thats when you should charge fracture care and not an office visit..

hope this makes since..

Darcy cpc.. it feels good to use these initials... :)
