Am I reading NCCI guidelines correctly- if you have a fracture/ dislocation of a bone- and the physician documents "reduction of fracture dislocation", only ONE code can be billed, most likely the fracture reduction code.
I have a case in which a subtalar fracture dislocation was reduced. The OP note clearly says that the joint was reduced, but the diagnosis is "subtalar fracture dislocation." Do I charge closed reduction of the joint and closed treatment of the fracture?
Thank you!
Cindy

I have had this scenario before. I was told that the reduction of the fx, reduced the dislocation, and that the dislocation was bundled into the fx care code. Im not sure where she was referencing this from, but it came from Margie Scalley Vaught. Hope this helps a little!
