Hello,

If a dermatologist is performing an excision and is reading the pathology slide (as you would in MOHS) would you bill 88331 with a 26 modifier? They are not preparing the slides so the lab would bill 88331 TC and the dermatologist would be 88331 26? I just want to make sure I understand this correctly. I know that within MOHS the 88331 is included in the procedure so you do not bill separately but if it the lesion does not qualify for MOHS and you are billing an excision with frozen pathology would my example above be correct?
