My doctor is doing a full-thickness skin graft on three separate deftects of the right and left ears. He believes he should be able to bill CPT 15260 three times for three separate defects. I read in CPT book pg 74 that for multiple wounds, sum the surface area of all wounds from all anatomic sites that are grouped together into the same code descriptor.

Question: Would you code a full-thickness skin graft of the right superior helix, right antihelix, and left medial auricle with CPT 15260 billed one time if the defects added together are 20 sq cm or less?

I would, and if it makes you feel any better, I'll be having the same conversation with my surgeon later this week.
