Can you use two G codes on the same claim?
Example a patient has chronic back pain, but also has unrealted cancer pain. Can you use the G89.29 for the back pain and the G89.3 for the cancer pain? Thank you!

Look at your ICD-10 book and it will give you the answer. There is an Excludes1 note under G89.2- that states that G89.3 is not coded here. So per the guidelines, an "exception to the Excludes1 definition is the circumstance when the two conditions are unrelated to each other." So the two codes may be used together on the same encounter if you are using the two codes to report two conditions that the medical record shows as being unrelated.
