Hello all !!!

Hoping that someone can direct me to documentation, guidelines, videos for coding GAE’s?
New to this and want to be sure the billing is done correctly.

1. Report code 37242 for genicular artery embolization (GAE) for treatment of painful osteoarthritis of the knee joint. This embolization is performed with FDA-approved (via Breakthrough Device designation) Embozene microspheres. It is reported once, even though three or four genicular arteries are embolized at a single session.
2. Usually multiple genicular arteries are embolized. Report codes 36247 and 36248 x 2 for catheter placements (from a contralateral or radial approach), and, since this is one surgical site, report code 37242 once, regardless of the number of arteries embolized. Report code 37244 if embolization is for post-operative hemorrhage (e.g., after knee replacement). If access is the ipsilateral SFA or posterior tibial artery, report selection of three genicular arteries with code 36245 x 3.
3. Discuss genicular artery embolization for osteoarthritis treatment with your payer for pre-approval of this elective procedure. Your physician may need to talk with the medical director about this and some other embolizations.
