Have a patient that has had a Nissen fundoplication for Barretts which has failed. Dr wants to do a gastric bypass but patients insurance had a rider denying gastric bypass-what, if any, chance will I have in order to get the surgery approved? Patient is within body weight and BMI is in normal range. Will it do me any good to even try????
 
I have successfully gotten a gastric bypass procedure done with an insurance company that will not allow them. The patient has a normal BMI. I had the doctor do a peer to peer review and sent in loads of documentation along with study results to show that it wasn't related to weight loss. The insurance approved the procedure and paid.
