I just began coding GI recently and I am regularly seeing EGD path reports with a diagnosis of "chronic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia." Would it be correct to use codes K29.50 + K31.A0 together for this? I am currently training with a coworker on GI procedures and I used those two codes together on an EGD yesterday and she questioned my use of K31.A0. I know where I got it from but I wanted to ask other opinions before I bring it up again.

If documented you can use together and there is not a Excludes 1 rule in the diagnostic ICD10 manual. You are correct
