I have a question about 571.5. Does it require a 5th didget?

Also, I have a pt. that was seen by the gastro Doc 5 or 6 times in his office. she was admitted to the hospital by a hospitalist 2 days after her last visit to the gastro doc. He went to see her at hospital and is charging a consult visit. Is that ok since he had already been seeing her as a pt?

Thanks for your help.

Gastro Code

571.5 doesn't require a fifth digit but it does have a code first annotation if applicable for viral hepatitis (acute) (chronic) 079.0-079.9. In reference to your other question yes it is a consult even though the patient is an established office patient

I disagree with it being a consult. If your provider is called because his patient has been admitted and he sees that patient for issues already being treated then it was not a consult.
