Hi all,

I wanted to know if anyone knew for certain that codes used in surgery section for breasts are for both genders. CPT 19120 does specify that it can be used for both male and female. I am wondering if you are doing an aspiration of a breast cyst for a male can you use CPT 19000? Any feedback is much appreciated!

I am not sure if those codes are gender specific. I have never come across that situation. But if your not comfortable using code 19000, you could try 10160.

the only code I know of that is gender specific is 19300..but interestingly enough it does not say that in the CPT book. I use Encoder Pro which tells me which codes throughout the book are gender specific. One would think that CPT would have some sort of indication as well, because without additional resources it could potentially cause a denial.
