A patient comes in during a 10 day global for medication management for 4 medications- not all related to her procedure- just one. The provider does extend the rx of antibiotic received at her procedure and he looks at her wound too. He was the provider of her minor procedure.
Does this rule out the use of modifier 24 on the E/M?
I don't know if this should be 99024-does not seem right either.
I don't typically bill this type of service.
Need advice.
Thank you.

The evaluation and management this is not related to the procedure can be billed with the modifier 24. But you should exclude the post-operative services from the elements you use to derive your E&M level. In other words, the history, exam and MDM components that involve the post-op work can't contribute to the E&M level that you bill.

Thank you for clarifying. Intuitivley, I thought the same way and wanted to reduce the level of his visit, and code for the problems unrelated. I will make note of this for future reference. I needed confirmation from someone who really knows what they are talking about!
