Hey coding friends,

Can you tell me if anyone out there is having issues with getting an office exam paid for the (other) eye when in the global period of a cataract surgery for the intial eye? We have been billing them as the exam code with modifer 24/25 then RT or LT depending on which one needs to been done on the second surgery. Trouble is we are having to use the same diagnosis code as original surgery so this is kicking our claims back as non covered and within the global period. Any help is appreciated.

If the exam is being done a day prior to the surgery of second eye it will not be paid as the global period starts from one day before.
