Please see the below scenario and clarify if this is appropraite global billing.

Our employed physician may be in surgery or attending another delivery. If they are, an independent group of ob house physicians (not employed) would be attending the delivery (either c-section or vaginal) until our physician can make it to the patient. If a physician (our employed physician) made it to the patient prior to the placenta being delivered, then that physician (our employed physician) would be entitled to the global billing (including delivery of the service). Because delivery of the placenta is considered a major component of the service, and get's the physician there for the majority of the defined services under a delivery. Under the guidelines within the Ob department, our physician would be documented as the physician of record for the delivery, and the independent house physician would be documented as a physician assisting with the case.

Thank you!!

If I did have a reciprocal agreement then this would be appropriate correct? And if I do not have a reciprocal agreement then the "delivering" physician would bill for the delivery and our employed physician would bill for delivery of the placenta correct?

Thanks!
