Global or Not ???

Hi, I have a doc who did a 27822, open Tx ankle Fx with internal fixation. He places some screws, and stated that they will have to be removed later. DOS 01/19/2012

He now is charging a 20680, removal of an implant (wire, pin, screw, etc.), DOS 03/01/2012.

Would the removal of the screws be included in the global period, or can I charge the 20680 with a 58 modifier?

Not, according to your statement, the provider indicated that he/she would bring the pt back at a later date. 20680 with a modifier 58 would be correct.

20680 -58 is appropriate, and not inclusive of the initial procedure.
