If the hand written progress note is signed by the physician, but the transcribed dictation is not...can that still be coded?

coding

I don't see why a signed, handwritten note can't be coded. There is no rule that all notes must be dictated and transcribed. As long as the handwritten one is complete and it can be read I would code and bill it. I'm not sure why the docs are doing both (written and dictated) but only one is needed.

It depends on the insurance carrier, the company I used to work for accepted the transcribed as the final note. In my personal opinion I agree with swilliams2 but the insurance companies are paying the bills.
