Can anyone help with this issue: When there is a Depression and Anxiety group session but only one patient shows up, the provider still has the group session, Do I still bill 90853? or do I find another code for there is no master treatment plan for this group session.

Okay, I'll put on my auditor hat on this one. The provider can only bill what was performed. The provider did not perform group therapy...only one patient was present. The therapist should have treatment plans in place for each individual in the group. If not, then they can't bill for it.

Just my opinion. I'd love to hear what other's think on this issue.

I can't find the documentation right at the moment, but I know I read somewhere that there have to be at least 3 patients have to be present to bill a 90853.
