I have a physician that is billing 49204 with 58720-51 and Supercoder is disallowing 58720. Can someone give me some insite why these 2 codes may not be billed together. His surgery notes state he removed the right ovary and tube and performed enterolysis & lysis of adhesions to free the colon, distal small bowel, ureter, from the pelvic floor. Thanks, Sharon

BSO with 49204

I just happened on this query, so I thought I'd reply in case someone else had the same issue. First, I would not use codes from the 4920_ section unless a tumor or mass is being removed. As the procedure note indicates "Freeing of Adhesions" I would code 44005.
Apart from the fact that 44005 is a stand-alone procedure, the BSO (58720) includes the adhesiolysis.
Now for the code in question 4920_ includes the BSO. I hope this helps someone.
