H & P for admit done in ER the day before admission

I am coding an admission for a patient. The hospital has the admission date as 1/3/15, but the H & P for the admission was done on 1/2/15 in the ER. Is there any way my doctor can get credit for the admission or will I have to code the encounter as an ER E&M code since it was done the day before the admission? Thank you.
