I am not sure if this topic belongs in this group...thought I'd give it a try.
I work for a large anesthesia/pain management group that has started its services at a new ASC. Now there is a podiatrist who is looking to do some procedures at the ASC. The question is about the H&P for the patient. Who will do the H&P? I am told that the podiatrist does not do it; so the question has come up whether our docs (the anesthesiologists) can do the H&P in the preop area. Is there anyone who is in the ASC setting that has come across such an issue? Thank you.

I work for a podiatrist in town and what we do is refer them back to their PCP for an H&P and a medical clearance.

thanks

thanks susie for your input...our practice is also considering the liability issue of further follow up if one of our docs do the H&P...so we are also thinking about having the pt go through internal med or family practice to do the H&P.
