Hi all, I am hoping someone can help me with this. I am new to heart surgery and I am coding from a remote location than that of the surgeons office, I am not familiar with the start to finish process and the girl at the office is helping me along the way.
It seems that the patient, after having a cath done will be referred to the surgeon for a consult (consult billed), decision for surg is made, patient has a pre-op done in office usually by PA or NP (pre-op billed), now the question I need help with, the day before the surgery the patient goes to the hosp for pre-op workup, eg. ekg, blood, etc. then they go over to my docs office where he discusses the procedure, risks, anything else. My question is this, can I bill an E/M using time as the factor for the level at this visit with the surgeon? (The facility will bill for their services themselves)
Thank you all!
