Wiki Help hospital discharge

I need to be clearer

One of our hospitalists seen a patient in critical care and later on the patient passed away and the hospitalist wants to charge discharge. Any thoughts on this:confused:
Thank you,

If he billed for critical care earlier in the day and then does a significantly separate and identifiable service later on the same date (discharge) you can bill a discharge with a -25 modifier. Records may be requested so make sure documentation supports both the critical care and the requirements needed to support a discharge code.

Hope this helps!

Only the provider that did the pronouncement gets the discharge. If your hospitialist did not call it then he doesn't get to bill it.
