Patient and spouse both have insurance. Do I go by who's birthday falls first in the calander year as to who's is primary? I havent worked in so long I cant remember for sure. :eek:

If the patient has insurance and the spouse does also the patients insurance is always primary and the spouse is secondary, and vise versa. The birthday rule applies to the dependents, if they take their child to the doctor the parent who's birthday falls closest to the beginning of the year would be the primary and the other spouse would be secondary. Has anything recently changed regarding the birthday rule? I'm seeing several couples with BCBS, and the insured patient's plan is taking money back stating "we are adjusting the benefit determination due to coordination of benefits information".
Thanks for any help.
