Hi
Could use some help in finding a DX for: failed response to permanent spinal cord stimulator. Ive been searching and just can't come up w/ anything that would seem appropriate. Tried looking in the 996. Help would be appreciated

Thank you
Paula

Like Karen, that is one that we use. We also use 996.63 when the patient's condition deteriorates due to an inflammatory reaction to the implant, rather than a mechanical complication of the device.

'Failed response' to a stimulator doesn't clarify if there is a complication of the device. If there is no documented complication of the device I would code the condition the patient originally received the stimulator for along with code V45.89 for presence of the device. Good Luck.
