Wiki Help with CPT for Fat pad biopsy to rule out amyloid

Without an operative report, it would be hard to advise on a code here since there are different techniques and different types of lesions that would all be coded differently. Can you give a little more information?

In office procedure :
Pre op diagnosis: Rule out amyloid .
Post op diagnosis: Same .
Operation: Abdominal fat pad biopsy .
Anesthesia: Local .
Details of procedure: After obtaining informed consent the patient was taken to the operating room and was placed in the supine position with the right lower abdomen was prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion. Using 1% lidocaine the skin was infiltrated. An incision was made. A generous portion of abdominal fat was taken and placed in formalin. After ensuring adequate hemostasis, the skin was reapproximated using interrupted 3-0 Vicryl subdermal sutures followed by Dermabond. Sterile dressings were applied.
Specimens: Abdominal fat pad for Congo red studies in formalin .
