surgeon did a laproscopic repair of hernia with mesh, then converted to open procedure for excision of hernia sac--can i code both with a modifier or just the open procedure?????

When a laparoscopic procedure is converted to an open procedure, you should only be billing for the open procedure.

We only code/bill for the open procedure. We also use a v code that says lap procedure converted to open procedure.. V64.41 on our claims.
