I'm not sure if this is a billable procedure and if so what code would be used. The patient is being treated in the ED and their OB/GYN asked the ED provider to perform the following:

Using a speculum was able to visualize the cervix with some mild bleeding in the 1 o'clock position. I used a large Q-tip to apply pressure to the area then use a half size amount of Surgicel and packed it up against the cervix. Patient tolerated the procedure well.

Is there a procedure code for this?

Thank you

Karen

Hmmmm, 57180 "Introduction of any hemostatic agent or pack for spontaneous or traumatic nonobstetrical vaginal hemorrhage" sounds just right, except that code specifies VAGINAL hemorrhage. However, the cervix codes all specify cautery with options of electro or thermal; cryo; laser ablation, so to me those are definitely incorrect. 57180 describes the procedure exactly but a few cm further in. I would either use 57180 or consider it part of the visit, depending on what else was documented for the visit. Keep in mind 57180 has a 10 day global.
