Cystoscopy, right retrograde pyelogram, right ureteral stent placement, right ureterscopy, right ureteral brush biopsy of renal pelvis and proximal ureter.

Doctor was performing a ureteroscopy and then was a brush biopsy was loaded through the ureteroscope and a brush biopsy of the renal pelvis and proximal urter where it appeared irritated was obtained and sent for cytology.

Would this be coded as 52354 & 52332.59 or just 52351 & 52332.59 since the 52005 and 52007 would be bundled. I am not sure if I would code the brush biopsy as 52007 or 52354.

Your line of thinking is right. I’d do option ONE.

Option one Following the coding CCI. Your left with these codes.

Also to mention 52351 is higher RVUs than 52007.

52351.RT + ureteroscope and a brush biopsy of the renal pelvis and proximal urter

52332.51.RT - right ureteral stent placement (no 59 needed)

Option two

Some coders may state that the intent was 52007, so the wouldn’t even apply the 52351 to this case.

52332.RT- right ureteral stent placement

52007.59.RT- brush biopsy of the renal pelvis and proximal urter
