I work in a Derm office and we have a pt. that came in with a spinning suture. The sutures were done in July. Would using T85.698 require a S at the end? I don't know that this would be considered a "late effect" or if we just bill out T85.698A.:confused::confused:

Any help would be great!
Thanks!:)
Kathy

The T85 code range is for mechanical complications of implants and grafts. A suture is none of these. You could use a general complication of surgery code. When I look up suture I get a T81 code. However if this encounter is the initial encounter to active deal with this issue then the 7th character is an A. It does not matter when the surgery occurred. Thus is not a late effect of the surgery it is a complication of the surgical event. A late effect would be a deformity or something along that line.
