If you are billing an unrelated visual field post-op (92083), do you use Mod 79?

It depends on the carrier, but I would say yes, use the -79. Make sure your diagnosis is different from the surgery diagnosis.

I don't believe modifier 79 is appropriate. Modifier 79 is used to append to surgical codes. If the visual field or any other test is performed w/in a post operative period it should be payable w/out a modifier. IF a modifier is needed it would only be an eye modifier, if it is applicable to the code.
