If a 13 to 18 year old requests STD screening and or treatment without parental consent- Is the minor responsible for payment? Or if the charges are submitted to the parents insurance is that a Hipaa violation since the pt billing statement could contain the cpt codes or description of the services rendered as well as the eob once the insurance processes the claim the minor did not consent to have information released to parent

Thanks

A patient who wants to pay cash can instruct the provider to not share treatment information with his or her health plan.
