when i am coding for example a history of stomache ulcers do I code the history first then the current dx or does the history come second
any help is appreciated

The V codes are almost always listed as secondary diagnosis, but it really depends on what service you are billing.

There is a great Table of V Codes and which ones you can place first, second and third, in the beginning of the ICD-9 book, under coding guidelines. This should help you alot. Thanks :):)
