If the patient only admits to past occurrances of smoking, and you have no reason to believe that they still smoke, then use the history. Once they quit, it's history - I guess even if it's just the next day. You're taking their word for it anyways, most of the time, so if they say they don't smoke anymore, you've got to assume that the 'history' code is correct. Hope that helps!
