Hi,

Looking for advice on diagnosis code(s) for a record where the pt is 38 years old but carries a history of shaken baby syndrome that has left her profoundly disabled (with many sequelae). Have tried a few different codes (e.g., T74.12XS, child abuse sequelae and T74.4xxS, shaken infant syndrome, sequelae) to specify causation (after codes for her various problems). What am I doing wrong here? This started when she was a baby, and is ongoing, so I don't know why the system is telling me these codes cannot be used on an adult patient. Any ideas? Has anyone come across this before and fixed it so it didn't get denied? Thanks in advance.
