is there anyone out there who codes for a hospice and has had questions. we have home health coders but i havent really met anyone who codes for hospices
 
I don't code for hospice facilities, but I have a question regarding hospice coding too. I code for infectious dz docs and they often see people in the hospital. We aren't told the patient is in hospice when we see them so our claims always deny until we append the GW modifier. My question is though, when the pt has a Medicare replacement plan and in hospice, do the claims always get filed to regular Medicare instead of the replacement plan? That's what Secure Horizon told me. If you or anyone else has the answer, I would appreciate your telling me:).
