Can someone please help? I was under the impression that if one of my docs(hem/onc) are called in to the hospital on one of our established patients by the hospital physician, that we could bill a consult? T or F? Could someone please point me in the direction of written guidelines on this? Thank you!!!

Depends on why you were called in.

If they want advice on how they should treat the patient, then yes it is a consult.

If they are just calling your provider in to help manage the patient, no it is not a consult.

Consults are all about intent.
