Scenario: Billing for Specialist, hospital consult
New patient, new diagnosis of a broken hip is admitted. ED attending sees patient first. Consults the specialist. The specialist ON Call is unavailable. A resident sees patient -Backup specialist for same practice sees patient, but just after 24th hr after admission. Can he bill for a hospital consult? He first saw pt after 24 hrs of admission. Any links would be helpful, could not find guidelines on CMS.
