our office is a private owned office and we team up with another surgical practice for on call--if a patient has a procedure done with Office A can office B bill the post op/follow up care?

thanks for any info!

Since all routine post-operative care is included in the global package paid for the surgical procedure code, it would not be appropriate to bill separately for this. If the surgeon who performed the procedure is transferring care to the other group for post-operative care and the two providers wish to be reimbursed separately, then they should each bill the appropriate modifiers (54, 55, 56) on the surgery code to represent this arrangement. But if it's just call coverage for individual related post-op visits and the surgery was billed globally, there should be no additional bills for those visits because the package was already paid in full to the surgeon.
